About Eat Logic

Eat Logic are a new 'future jazz' project. They combine electronic and acoustic elements with UK street idioms, jazz instrumentation and melodic improvisation. Their players and singers have helped to define the sound of British underground music over the past two decades. Our members have played in bands like JTQ, Courtney Pine, Vibraphonic, Massive Attack, Basement Jaxx, Chaka Khan and Hugh Masekela - iconic artists who hold a firm place in the history of Acid Jazz and Electronic Dance Music.

The band’s ‘RIYL’ list includes Cinematic Orchestra, Weather Report, Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils Peter Molvaer, de Phazz, Portico Quartet, Snarky Puppy, Fenomenon, Slowly Moving Camera, Robert Glasper, as well as friends and colleagues of the band The Bays, Incognito, The Latin Project, Massive Attack, D*Note, Sigma, Reel People and The Sunburst Band. But don't think for a moment that it stops there. You'll hear influences from composers like Ennio Morricone, Alva Noto and Tony Hatch too!

Blending dark bit-crushed synths with ‘Kind Of Blue’ brass textures, sending urgent sax extrapolations cascading over 909 kicks and filtered pads, with vocals ranging from declamatory to introspective, their music promises to satisfy “Jazz lovers who want a bit of pep when they step out, club-heads who want more than a straight four on the floor and people who love to see good musicians do their thing”. “You could say we’re half way between ECM and EDM” quips Gordon Hulbert, the band’s founder.

What Is 'Future Jazz'?

Good question! Have you ever felt like Jazz in 2020 is stuck somewhere between the 1940s and the 1980s? Original 'Jazz' was current music adapted from the streets and dance venues. UK Jazz in 2020 is missing many of the unique sounds originating from the UK underground. Eat Logic are one of the few bands in 2020 who are committed to the undiluted sound and flavour of these genres. We believe that for Jazz to remain relevant, it's crucial for jazz musicians to reflect the current world around them!

Our Music

“We’ve always been excited by the unique sounds created by some of the people we've worked with" says Gordon Hulbert, the band’s founder and musical director. "Hopefully that carries through into what we're doing, but we're also concerned with composition, arrangements and locking together as musicians. As sidemen we’ve laid it down behind the best in the business, so we also hope to bring that tradition and quality of musicianship into our live performances.”

Eat Logic Live

The live launch of our EP took place on 4th August 2015. Held at The Half Moon Putney, it was a great night for all concerned and the evening's shenanigans were recorded both on audio and video for posterity (and future releases). Due to regular touring commitments, we only make an occasional small and select number of appearances, which have included The Crypt in Hastings, The 606 Club and Hastings Jazz Festival. So if you want to see us, we recommend that you join our mailing list.

If you'd like to keep up to date with our latest gigs, releases etc and also be informed of exclusive guest passes, free giveaways etc please visit the 'subscribe' page and join our mailing list.

Our new album is under way and will very likely feature some live recordings from our debut.
